How Do You Measure a Laptop for a Bag?
There is a number of ways for measuring the laptop for a bag. I am going to mention the easiest, fastest and most accurate ones here. Measuring the laptop for a bag with measuring tape

Calculating laptop size for a bag
And, you must keep in mind that most of the advertisements you see are in the tenth of the inches, but the measuring tapes are marked in the sixteenth of the inches. For instance, 14.1”, 15.4”, etc. But, in case, you want to know the retail number in which your screen is labeled, you can take a look at the following chart of all the common sizes:
1 inch = 2.54 centimetres
Then, if for example, you have13.4 in the screen,
Then, 13.4 x 2.54 = 34.036
And, 13.4 inches is equal to 34.036 centimeters.
And, in case you want to convert inches to centimeters then you can simply multiply the inches by 2.54. and, you will get your measurement in centimeters. For instance, 13.4 inches screen is 34 centimeters. Then,
13.4 x 2.54 = 34.0
Then, the next step is measuring the height of your laptop. it is important because if measured wrongly, your laptop will not fit into the laptop bag and will keep sticking out. Hence, the laptop bag will be quite useless for you. Usually, laptop heights are 13.3 inches, 15.6 inches, and 17.3 inches.

To measure the height of your own laptop, first, close the lid of your laptop and measure it from the top of the screen to the bottom of the laptop screen. And, its best to add an extra two inches to the height of your laptop. as it makes sure that your laptop fits easily into the bag and doesn’t stick out. For instance, if the height of your laptop is 1.5 inches then multiply it to 2.54, the answer will be in centimeters.
Measure Width of your laptop
And, the next step is to measure the width of your laptop. It is also really essential that in case the bag will be too wide or too slim. In case of extra width, your laptop will keep moving in the bag and can be damaged. While, in another case, it won’t even fit in the bag. So, to measure the width of your laptop, again close the screen of the laptop.
And, this time, measures it from the left side to the right side of your laptop. Also, add an extra inch to the taken measurement to make sure your laptop fits in the bad you will buy. For instance, if the width of your laptop is 14 inches then simply multiply it to 2.54 and you will get the answer in centimeters.
Measure the depth of laptop bag
Then, the last step is to measure the depth of the laptop and this is the step which overlooks many times by the people. So, make sure you don’t make such a common mistake and doesn’t waste all your hard work till now.
Now, to measure the depth of your laptop, measure it from the back left or right corner of your closed laptop screen. And, make sure you measure it all the way down to the end of the corner.
And, to get the depth in centimeters, follow the same method. For instance, if the laptop’ depth us 12 inches, multiply it to 2.54 and your answer will be in centimeters. And, now you are ready to go out and but the bag for your laptop.
It is best to look for the good material along with the style when buying a bag for the laptop. I have been using a rolling laptop bag for traveling and that’s work great.
And, if you aren’t satisfied with this method and aren’t good with the measurements then you can opt the second method I am listing. Make sure you get the accurate measurements, or it will cause a great headache along with the monetary loss and time. Better be careful now then to regret it later. So, moving on to the next method.
How to measure a laptop without a measuring tape?
You can measure your laptop screen without the help of the measuring tape too. And the method is quite simple actually. You can simply compare it to the standard A4 paper which is 13”. And, depending upon how small or the larger is the screen of your laptop, compared to the standard paper. It will range from 11.6 to 17.3 inches.
And, with this simple method, you will be able to find the measurement of your laptop without the measuring tape. But I will actually recommend the above method as it is more accurate and has fewer chances of getting it wrong.
Plus, it is always best to write down the measurements as soon as you measure, so you don’t forget it later or mess up.
